Visualisation Tool

This tool is free to download and use. It models the allocation of downlink Resource Elements to the set of Signals and Physical Channels. The user can configure each of the variables which have an impact upon the allocation of Resource Elements, e.g. the channel bandwidth, number of transmit antenna and cell identity. The tool also quantifies throughput for each modulation scheme and a range of assumed coding rates.

Results from the tool can be exported into a csv file for subsequent viewing in Excel. An Excel Macro can be downloaded to read and format the data.

 Prerequisite
The Visualisation Tool has been developed using Microsoft's .NET Framework 4.0. This software must be installed as a prerequisite. If not already installed, then it can be downloaded from Microsoft at this address. Attempt installation of the application if unsure whether or not the .NET Framework is installed. A warning message will be generated if the .NET Framework is not installed.

 Application
The application window includes four tabs to display the Resource Element allocation with up to four antenna. A fith tab displays the results from the throughput calculations. The windows are populated in three phases - generation of signals, generation of physical channels and calculation of throughputs. A control panel at the bottom of the application window allows the various inputs to be configured. The installation file for the application is available from here.

 Excel Macro
The Excel Macro reads and formats csv files exported from the main application. Having the data in Excel allows the user to customise the view and content. It also allows the data to be saved for future reference. The Excel Macro is available from here.

Some example exported csv files can be downloaded from here - example 1, example 2, example 3, example 4. These can be viewed using the Excel Macro without installing the application.
